Well folks just when I thought I was seeing light through the trees of the forest, night fell.
The vet came today to preg check a mare, Kellys Black Fire who indeed checked in foal to Vining Lamar so the deal will be sealed with Susan Carlino in the purchase of Kellys Black Fire and she is now part of the Old Growth Oak Morgans broodmare band. Her Vining Lamar foal will be due Late July or early August of 2007.
The vet came to look at our 16 year old dog named Jake. We will be putting him to sleep tomorrow as he is in kidney faliure and there is no hope for recovery besides the fact that he has hip displasia and colon cancer.
The vet checked Toughie and he is doing great I will be introducing him to a foal suppliment called Foal Lac to boost his calories but also because good ole WoodRose Katrina is failing. She is starting to founder in her good front foot the one that she needs to stand on due to the other one being so bad. I had the vet draw blood since there was a change in her gum color and some other things and it showed that she has the internal symptoms of cushings as well. I have her on supports for her feet and leg wraps and will start treatment for the Cushings in hopes it will help with the founder. She gets x-rays of her front feet tomorrow as well as her bad knee to see where we can get that needle through to inject pain medicine in hopes that it will help her be able to put more pressure on that leg to relieve the other one. If all this works then the goal is to nurse her through to 4 – 6 months of life the vet has her fingers crossed we can stretch the rest of her life out as much as possible for the sake of her foal.
My goal is to keep her as comfortable as possible and hope she will, will herself to live for Toughie. She is one amazing mare and has beat the odds time and again, this news breaks my heart even though I always knew it would end with me having to have her put down.
